Construct - a hybrid drum machine, is used as a drum synthesis, as well as built-in samples, specifically designed as a tool to create drum sounds by working with layers. Construct uses three layers for each drum: Transient: The initial attack that you hear at the very beginning of the drum sound. This can be a very short sound that sets the drum apart from other instruments in the mix. Some of the drums in Construct, such as the bass drum and snare drum, have the option to use FM synthesis in a specific way when there is a sharp attack, well suited to most styles of electronic music. I'll also be using a few sounds for this layer from Les Productions Zvon's wonderful "Prepared Rhodes" collection for some interesting percussion elements. Tone: The basis of the drum sample. It is completely created by drum synthesis, in particular, unmodulated sine wave, fm synthesis, noise oscillators, etc. This usually produces low tones, but, for example, in the case of hi-hats and cymbals, the tone takes on a more subtle metallic coloration. Ambience: End of the drum sound. Contains some raw material to create a sophisticated ambience that adds personality to the drum. This layer will be based on sounds using a convolutional reverb technique where acoustic sounds, tape noise, vcr fuzz, vinyl crackle and other audio artifacts are applied. The other side of the possibilities offered by Construct are Modulators. Each drum has its own modulation section with three LFOs. These oscillators can be used in three different ways: low frequency Regular oscillators, which sweep over longer periods of time; Low Frequency Shortwave Oscillators, which are capable of producing modulation similar to envelope modulation; and more subtle random modulation reminiscent of Phonec's "Melt" option. These LFOs are fully customizable, but currently have default settings for these three modulation types. There are also some built-in effects like clipping, signal bit limiting, downsampling and three-band EQs for each drum, as well as the versatile Dub Delay.
