Domra is part of the folk instrument orchestra in several forms - piccolo, small, alto, bass and contrabass. Domra altova outwardly resembles small domra, only its dimensions are slightly larger. Its scale is also a quart - mi-la-re, but it sounds an octave lower. The strings are thicker and the sound is softer, deeper and more velvety. The alto domra timbre can be divided into three parts: upper, middle and lower. In the upper register, the instrument has a brighter sound. In the lower one, the instrument sounds closer to the bass one. The middle register gives the alto domra a special sound. It can be compared to a deep female voice.
